Sparrow sees food, largely, as fuel or a feast. She'll eat a restaurant meal or bake treats or something special from her heritage and appreciate them, but for the most part she'll eat whatever is most available when she's hungry, which is rarely, and that will be it. I find that rather brave, as food for me is both an incidental pleasure and a way to give structure to my day: the bravery is in the confidence that in the time freed from preparation and consumption of food there will be filled by something else that will be a greater pleasure or a more satisfying structure. Again, that sense of abundance in her.

She is free for unplanned incidents of pleasure, I'm tied to predictable ones. This understanding passes to all things.

One of the things I think about when I think about Sparrow is the way in which her example makes even wanting a sandwich an arena for instructive reflections.
