So Edinburgh seems a dream of childhood already and with next few weekends lost to work it will be another of those long gaps, a month maybe. I had a friend from the Hebrides at university and he said he couldn't get used to Sheffield because he couldn't measure himself without the sea. That's close. It isn't quite missing her, as I'm very happy in my own company. It's the not having the sea to measure oneself against.
Of course, the end of the story about the Hebridean in south Yorkshire is that he got a bus to Bakewell one day and found the moors. I don't think that's relevant to Sparrow and me but it makes for a happier ending to his story.
