Sparrow is acquisitive by nature. I can't think of a time we've been in any vaguely acceptable retail environment and she's not bought something: trinkets, presents, postcards, dresses, odd things in velvet bags and books, books, books. Her house froths with a fountain of things: cardboard boxes, powertools, paintings, crystal balls, feathers, furniture, tiny brushes, catfood, houseplants, timber, pucks of coloured wax. I edit, she includes. It's why I can relax there: a place of things at the bidding of their owner, and not the other way about.
